The implication of this is that every researcher has to learn the basics of writing as part of his/her research process. All these are attempts to document and disseminate their research works. Hence, we often see these products of research in the form of research papers, textbooks, magazines, journals, dissertations, etc. Writing has become the means through which latest research activities and results are published so as to contribute to the human “ pool of Knowledge”. It is the need for research that warrants the need for writing.

Research is the core upon which human advancement rests upon today. Students and non-student writers all have to learn how to cite sources properly. (But this document is imported from Word, which could be why it's not using the style on the first half.Across the globe, allegations of plagiarism are what every writer tries to avoid by all means. In the first half of the document, it selects none - in the second half, it selects most, but misses some. Interestingly, when I select 'select all uses of footnote reference' in the style drawer, it only selects some of my footnote superscripts, and not others. If I highlight the greyed-out footnote and click the 'footnote reference' style, the highlighting disappears, because the style has no highlighting, but I can't get it to default to using that style. There is a character style called 'footnote reference' that I've played with, but I can't seem to solve it. I have used grey highlighting very miminally in the document (in a few places where I wanted to come back to something later) - but nowhere near where these footnotes are.

Now they are showing up as highlighted in grey. Interesting development - shortly after I posted here, the footnote reference numbers stopped bolding themselves. I'm only including footnotes in the body text, which is regular Times - no footnotes for headers.
